Front of House Catering Manager

The Toledo Zoo is currently seeking a dynamic, results oriented Front of House Catering Manager. The Catering Manager will supervise and direct the work of front of house catering crew which includes instructing, assigning and reviewing work; planning; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; and recommending disciplinary actions. Will perform catering service oversight of event implementation in a multi-event/location facility, which includes our newly renovated Malawi Event Center. The Malawi Event Center is one of the largest event centers in the Toledo area that can accommodate up to 850 people! The Catering Manager will also prepare weekly reports, billing statements, transfers, inventory and various other reports and have a high volume of interaction with a variety of internal and external customers. This position requires working evenings, weekends and holidays and requires time worked in excess of forty hours per week.Prefer a degree in business management or food management and a minimum of five years front of house/banquet operations supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

Maintenance Technician I

Primary responsibilities include maintenance of HVAC systems including, operation and use of BAS systems, refrigeration work, climate control applications, mechanical systems i.e. boilers, rooftop units, pumps and control components, ventilation equipment, air filtration, domestic water supplies, and all associated controls. Will perform electrical maintenance, plumbing installations, building and grounds maintenance, snow removal by hand and using equipment as well as drive zoo vehicles. Work week is Thursday-Monday.

Requires a high school diploma. Prefer a technical degree in maintenance or related field or a combination of education/experience. Requires certification in HVAC. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo’s fleet insurance carrier. Maintenance Technician II

Under general supervision, responsibilities are to perform repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance to buildings and grounds and related equipment. This position reports to Facilities Maintenance Manager. This position is an hourly non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per the scheduled work week. Responsibilities include maintaining the animal exhibit filtration systems, performing plumbing installations and repairs, performing building and grounds related maintenance duties, and light electrical repairs and installations. Will also perform snow removal by hand and using equipment and may have painting responsibilities. Will order and obtain supplies, tools and other equipment needed in performance of assigned jobs. Will perform work independently in order to meet prescribed deadlines and standards. Performs other related duties as required, appropriate to skill level and experience.

Prefer technical degree in maintenance or related field. Requires a high school diploma with additional education in a maintenance or related field and 5 years’ experience, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Sous Chef

Under general supervision, the Sous Chef will support the Executive Chef in the daily activities of the catering department. Performs duties related to catering services such as display set-up, monitoring food production and food quality, etc. Will also assist Executive Chef in the implementation of policies and procedures for staff, maintaining budgeted guidelines related to kitchen expenditures and execute catering services provided for events to promote and ensure that the established standards of customer service, food quality, and cleanliness are met. Will also supervise and direct the work of subordinate kitchen personnel which includes instructing, assigning and reviewing work; planning; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; and recommending disciplinary actions. Will perform catering service food production of diverse menus in a multi-event/location facility which includes our newly renovated Malawi Event Center. The Malawi Event Center is one of the largest event centers in the Toledo area that can accommodate up to 850 people! The Sous chef will prepare food and buffets, set up supplies, serve food to customers, clean up storage areas, order food items from warehouse, transport food to various locations, and other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma required. Prefer formal education in a Culinary Arts or Hospitality program with a minimum of two years of experience in a similar capacity. A combination of education and experience may be considered to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to fill the position. Supervisory experience is preferred for the position. Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours worked per week. Community Preschool Teacher

The Toledo Zoo is currently accepting applications for a part- time community preschool teacher. This position teaches younger children in an early learning preschool program on Zoo grounds and supporting classroom introduction. Leads program implementation and assists with scheduling, recruiting and age appropriate curriculum development. This is a part time position that can work up to 20 hours per week September through May. The position reports directly to the education manager. Requires a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education along with satisfactory classroom experience, including but not limited to student teaching.
